Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails that causes discolouration and disfigurement. The nails may also thicken and split. Without treatment, it is not uncommon for the toenails to become so thick that they press against the inside of the shoes, causing pressure, irritation, and pain. Half of all nail disorders are caused by onychomycosis and it is the most common nail disease in adults. Our nail laser treatment is a new alternative to oral medication and it has no side effects. The treatment works by using a short-pulsed 1,064 nm laser which inhibits Trichphyton rubrum growth in vitro due to high-temperature dependence. The laser pulses reach the nail plate, nail bed, and surrounding structures. A course of 3 treatments is required with a month interval in between sessions.
