Subcision

For Acne Scar Treatment

If you suffer from deep depressed acne scars, chickenpox scars, or trauma scars that have not responded to peels or micro-needling, then Subcision can help you achieve a smoother more even-looking complexion. Subcision is a minor in-office surgical procedure that’s used to treat acne scars. It involves inserting a small needle into your skin to release the acne scar from the underlying tissue. This allows your skin to rise and to diminish the appearance of the acne scar.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What is Subcision?

Subcision is a simple and safe procedure for the treatment of depressed scars. Scar tissue pulls down the skin’s surface – causing the skin to look uneven and pitted.

Subcision works by using a small needle to stimulate the growth of collagen within the scar tissue. The needle breaks down the scar tissue, allowing the skin to heal and look smooth again. Whilst the needle is breaking down the scar tissue, it also stimulates cell renewal.

    Who is it for?

Subcision is a great option for anyone who has depressed or deep facial acne, chicken pox or trauma scars.

Whilst other scars may appear red and disappear over time, depressed acne scars can be permanent, as the scar tissue is interwoven with subcutaneous fat layers.

If you have deep scaring, this treatment is suitable for you.

    How does it work?

The area is cleansed, and each scar is identified and then a local anaesthetic is applied to help minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

The needle is then inserted into the depressed acne scar and moved backwards and forwards to break up the scar tissue.

    What are the side effects?

There can be some swelling and bruising where the treatment is done due to the skin undergoing repair. The swelling and bruising will disappear within a week of the procedure.

Avoid Asprin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil and Ibuprofen a week before treatment because they all thin the blood and can cause more bruising.

How many treatments do I need?

Most patients will see a result after their first treatment, although the number of sessions needed will vary depending on the depth, severity and age of the scar.

A client typically requires three to six subcision treatments to see ultimate results.

Treatments can be combined with other treatments offered at the Instant Laser Clinic – this will be discussed with you when you come in for your consultation.

    cost

The cost will be discussed with the cosmetic physician after a full skin assessment.
