Frequently Asked Questions

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

By choosing the right wavelength and energy dosage, the laser light, gently penetrates the surface of your skin to target tattoo ink pigments at the source.* It helps your body’s immune system to break the ink down and eventually eliminate it –safely and effectively.*

How does it work?

After a detailed consultation, the qualified and experienced laser practitioner at our Kew clinic will aim the laser beam over the tattooed area. Your skin rapidly absorbs this concentrated light energy which breaks down the tattoo pigment in your skin.* The ink gradually filters out of your body through your immune system.*

We will also offer a complimentary anaesthetic cream application to ease the sensation of the laser targeting the ink and your maximum comfort.

With no major downtime, you can resume your daily activity after the procedure.

Who is it for?

Those who are healthy with realistic expectations of the outcome of their laser tattoo removal.

It may not be suitable for you if you have:

  • Hypo or hyperpigmentation
  • Tanned skin
  • Prone to keloid scarring
  • Using light sensitizing drugs

It’s important that you disclose your full medical history to your Instant Laser Clinic practitioner during your initial consultation.

What are the side-effects?

After the Laser Tattoo Removal procedure, you may experience the following side-effects for a few weeks as the treatment area begins the healing process:

  • Redness
  • Bruising
  • Pinpoint bleeding
  • Sensitivity
  • Dull skin
  • Blistering
  • Temporary discoloration
  • Inflammation
What are the risks?

Our advanced Laser Tattoo Removal treatment has been designed to keep your skin healthy with minimal downtime, however, tattoo removal aftercare is an important step in lowering the risk of hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, infection and scarring.*

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you require will depend on the amount and type of ink in your tattoo and how deep it has been injected into the skin initially.

Not all inks are created equal. Blue, black and red inks fade best. Orange and purples also respond well. However, green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove and may require additional treatments for best results.

If you were tattooed by a professional tattooist, we typically recommend eight or more sessions at our Melbourne clinic.* Amateur tattoos or shading tattoos may require as few as 4-6 treatments.*

How much does it cost?

Your final cost will depend on a number of factors such as:

  • Size of tattoo
  • Colour of tattoo
  • Complexity of various ink colours used in tattoo
  • Location of tattoo

Indicative prices are as follows:

Small tattoo ( 50 cent coin size) $90 per session
Large tattoo (A4 Size) $700 per session
