The UltraShape™ procedure is guided by a real-time tracking and guidance system designed to deliver smooth, uniform body contouring results. The system's software algorithm maps the treatment area and ensures that the treatment is performed only within the marked treatment area. Furthermore, each pulse of energy delivered is immediately adjacent to the prior pulse, ensuring that each point within the treatment area is treated only once and providing complete and uniform coverage over the entire treatment area. This approach minimizes the risk of contour irregularities, a common occurrence with liposuction.

In initial safety and feasibility trials performed in Israel, patients underwent the UltraShape procedure prior to abdominoplasty. The study monitored safety of the treatment and included histological evaluation of tissues excised during surgery. These histological specimens demonstrate that the treatment does not harm skin, blood vessels, nerves, or connective tissue.

Efficacy in body contouring was assessed in a multi-center controlled clinical trial performed in five sites in the United States, England, and Japan. One hundred thirty seven healthy volunteers underwent a single treatment with the Contour Ion the abdomen, thighs, or flanks, and were followed for 12 weeks. A mean reduction of 2 cm in circumference of the treated area was observed. The majority of the effect was measurable within 2 weeks, and the full effect was durable at 12 weeks. The study further underscored the safety of the device, with no serious adverse events and no clinically significant changes in serum lipids. These results will appear in an upcoming issue of the Journal for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Since the Contour I received CE approval in 2005, over 20,000 treatments have been performed worldwide, further demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
